I want my photographs to reflect the sense of order, peace, and beauty inherent in everything around me. I create images that evoke a pleasant feeling of fulfilment, touch the viewer's soul, and elevate them spiritually, morally, and intellectually. The selection of subjects is guided by the emotions they convey to me, their geometric composition in space, and the quality of the light that surrounds them.
My passion is for natural light; however, unlike many who confine their creativity to outdoor environments, I am particularly attracted to indoor light—rich in contrasts between light and shadow, revealing hidden and invisible perspectives of each subject—even if it means waiting hours to capture a fleeting instant of perfection. I explore the extremes of light and darkness in all my landscapes, whether it is the exceptional beauty offered by nature or the grace of human art, whether represented by statues, paintings, or architecture.
Black-and-white digital photography constantly stimulates me to discover new places, perspectives, and emotions to tell my stories. In each new project, I strive for simplicity, balance, and harmony. I have adopted this approach to escape the chaos of everyday life, which imposes a pace too frantic for a contemplative mind.
The most significant aspect of my experience is creating ink pigment prints, which is the pinnacle of my artistic journey. This practical phase, which requires great care and attention, gives me deep satisfaction and makes me feel accomplished, fulfilling my aspirations. To achieve this, I must apply strict discipline and a large dose of patience—a natural evolution of my photographic process.

Desidero che le mie fotografie riflettano il senso di ordine, pace e bellezza intrinseca in tutto ciò che mi circonda, creando immagini capaci di evocare un piacevole senso di appagamento, per toccare l'animo di chi le osserva, elevandolo spiritualmente, moralmente e intellettualmente. La selezione dei soggetti è guidata dalle emozioni che essi mi trasmettono, dalla loro composizione geometrica nello spazio e dalla qualità della luce che li avvolge.
La mia passione è rivolta alla luce naturale; tuttavia, a differenza di molti che confinano la loro creatività agli ambienti esterni, sono particolarmente attratto dalla luce interna — ricca di contrasti tra luce e ombra, che svela prospettive nascoste e invisibili di ciascun soggetto — anche se ciò comporta ore di attesa per catturare un fugace istante di perfezione. Esploro gli estremi di luce e oscurità in tutti i miei paesaggi, sia che si tratti dell'eccezionale bellezza offerta dalla natura, sia della grazia dell'arte umana, sia essa rappresentata da statue, dipinti o architetture.
La fotografia digitale in bianco e nero mi stimola costantemente a scoprire nuovi luoghi, prospettive ed emozioni per narrare le mie storie. In ogni nuovo progetto, mi impegno a conseguire maggiore semplicità, equilibrio e armonia. Credo di aver adottato questo approccio per sfuggire al caos della vita quotidiana, che impone un ritmo troppo frenetico per una mente contemplativa.
Forse, l'aspetto più significativo della mia esperienza risiede nella creazione di stampe a pigmenti d'inchiostro, apice del mio percorso artistico. Questa fase pratica, che richiede grande attenzione e cura, mi offre una profonda soddisfazione e mi fa sentire compiuto, soddisfacendo appieno le mie aspirazioni. Per raggiungere questo risultato, è essenziale applicare una disciplina rigorosa e un'ampia dose di pazienza: un'evoluzione naturale del mio processo fotografico.
Biography
Born in 1965 in Genoa, Marco Maroccolo explored various artistic and professional activities, including the study of music and ancient literature and the practice of printing and graphic design, before refocusing his attention on his first true love: photography.
Starting with landscape photography, he soon progressed to capturing the idiosyncrasies of architecture, interiors, and works of art. His preference for black-and-white digital photography proved to be the perfect vehicle to explore the subtle variations given by natural light in both open and intimate spaces.
One of his first portfolios, 'From Earth, From Heaven', depicting the statues of the Staglieno Cemetery, was published by the American magazine LensWork in 2010. The same magazine published 'Lotus & Pyramid' the following year, images illustrating his collection of old travel books from the Orient. Other projects include the mountain churches of Südtirol (Kirchen in Südtirol) and 'Venice, upside-down forest', a journey to discover the most hidden and lesser-known places in Venice.
Maroccolo personally oversees the post-production of all his images, creating ink pigment prints that give the entire process a final artistic touch. In addition to making single commissioned images for collectors and galleries, he also produces artistic prints of landscapes, architecture, and the like, available in both open and limited editions. Besides his artistic activity, Maroccolo is a popular lecturer and teacher, frequently holding courses, workshops and presentations on photography, creativity and art. These initiatives, designed to be accessible to professionals and amateurs alike, range from photo post-production software, the history of photography, and monographs on famous photographers to creative and artistic techniques, exploring the relationship between art and photography. As a photo editor, consultant and curator, he advises museums, galleries and photographers on analysing and selecting images for photographic projects, exhibitions and publications.

Stories shape our experiences and enable us to approach life with open eyes.
I provide a means to understand our place in the big picture, thus structuring our interpretation of events. Without them, what happens would float around us as if enclosed in bubbles, meaningless.
What touches people is this narrative mode because it is not merely intellectual, nor is it a mere scream. It is not just emotion; it is an amalgamation of these elements, and it is in this space that we exist as human beings.
In a world that is becoming increasingly fragmented and narrow, stories unify us and show us how our differences are not so marked and, where they exist, how significant they can be.
We know that people learn and assimilate information more effectively through stories than tables, graphs and statistics.
This is why my courses and lectures are so popular: they have an intrinsic educational value for our minds, which is conveyed through the ancient art of storytelling, enriched with images, films and music to stimulate the audience's emotions.

Le storie modellano le nostre esperienze e ci consentono di affrontare la vita con gli occhi ben aperti.
Forniscono un mezzo per comprendere il nostro posto nel disegno generale, strutturando così la nostra interpretazione degli eventi. Senza di esse, quanto accade fluttuerebbe attorno a noi come se fosse racchiuso in bolle, privo di significato.
Ciò che realmente tocca le persone è questa modalità narrativa, perché non è meramente intellettuale né un semplice urlo. Non è solo emozione; è un amalgama di questi elementi, e è in questo spazio che noi esistiamo come esseri umani.
In un mondo che si fa sempre più frammentato e ristretto, le storie ci unificano e ci mostrano come le differenze tra noi non siano così marcate e, laddove esistano veramente, quanto possano essere significative.
Sappiamo che le persone apprendono e assimilano le informazioni molto più efficacemente tramite le storie rispetto a tabelle, grafici e statistiche.
È per questo motivo che i miei corsi e conferenze riscuotono il favore di molti: possiedono un intrinseco valore didattico per la nostra mente, che viene trasmesso attraverso l'antica arte del racconto, arricchito da immagini, filmati e musica, per stimolare le emozioni del pubblico.
