Biography

Born in 1965 in Genoa, Marco Maroccolo explored various artistic and professional activities, including the study of music and ancient literature and the practice of printing and graphic design, before refocusing his attention on his first true love: photography.

Starting with landscape photography, he soon progressed to capturing the idiosyncrasies of architecture, interiors, and works of art. His preference for black-and-white digital photography proved to be the perfect vehicle to explore the subtle variations given by natural light in both open and intimate spaces.

One of his first portfolios, 'From Earth, From Heaven', depicting the statues of the Staglieno Cemetery, was published by the American magazine LensWork in 2010. The same magazine published 'Lotus & Pyramid' the following year, images illustrating his collection of old travel books from the Orient. Other projects include the mountain churches of Südtirol (Kirchen in Südtirol) and 'Venice, upside-down forest', a journey to discover the most hidden and lesser-known places in Venice.

Maroccolo personally oversees the post-production of all his images, creating ink pigment prints that give the entire process a final artistic touch. In addition to making single commissioned images for collectors and galleries, he also produces artistic prints of landscapes, architecture, and the like, available in both open and limited editions.
